Initiated Through Birth
Beginning Your Journey
Welcome to Initiated Through Birth! I am so happy you have chosen ITB as your place to grow and participate in your initiation into parenthood.
As your mentor, I encourage each of you to stay positive and keep an open mind during the process. Try not to judge birth based on stereotypes, but on individual experiences you encounter. Each journey is unique and brings something amazing to each family. Base big decisions on your personal values and always listen to your intuition.
The more you dedicate to your process, the more you will get out of it. During these next few weeks, you will learn to build a pain-coping mindset, face your fears, prepare for postpartum recovery, and new parent preparation.

Standards And Values
Birth is a process of initiation- a profound rite of passage, not a medical event (even when medical care is part of the birth). Therefore, childbirth preparation is also parent preparation.
For parents, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are a time of continuous learning and adjustment, holistic support and education should be available throughout that period.
Pain is an inevitable part of childbirth, yet much can be done to ease suffering. Pain coping techniques work best when integrated into daily life, rather than "dusted off" for labor.
Parents deserve support for any birth option which might be right for them (whether it be drugs, technology, home birth, or bottle feeding).
The purpose of childbirth preparation is to prepare birthing persons to give birth in awareness, not to achieve a specific birth outcome.
I encourage you to lean into challenging moments but also to practice self-care.
Check-in with yourself to see what feels safe and supportive of your personal growth and know that you can always “pass,” step out, or check in with me to gain clarity on a given process if you need to.
